Four things you are probably already living with

The books are the one part of running a business that came with no instructions

01

Receipts everywhere

Paper, email attachments and an out-of-date spreadsheet.

02

Two sales taxes

GST to the CRA, PST to the BC Ministry of Finance. Two registrations, two deadlines, two sets of rules.

03

Evenings gone

Ten hours a month sorting transactions.

04

No clear picture

A bank balance is not a margin.

Why Orbis

One practice for the books and the returns

QuickBooks Online, Xero or Sage 50

We work in all three and connect Shopify and Stripe to whichever you use. We migrate you off spreadsheets.

Built for BC, not for Canada in general

One person does your books every month

You explain your business once. No quarterly handover.

Fixed monthly price, no hourly billing

Financial reporting

A profit and loss and a balance sheet every month, with the numbers that moved marked.

05

Software setup and migration

QuickBooks Online, Xero or Sage 50. Chart of accounts, Shopify and Stripe connected, one training session.

08

T2 corporate returns

Corporate income tax for CCPCs, filed from books we closed month by month as the year went.

GST and PST are two different taxes

5%

GST

Goes to the CRA

Federal. You usually have to register once you pass $30,000 in revenue over four quarters. You charge it on most sales, and you claim back the GST you paid on business purchases.

7%

PST

Goes to the province

Provincial, and completely separate. Its own registration, its own deadlines, its own list of what is taxable. Most goods are taxable and many services are exempt. You cannot claim any of it back.

Plenty of owners have registered for only one of the two, and it is fixable. Say so in the form and we check both in your quote. Rates current as of July 2026.

The questions people ask most

If yours is not here, put it in the form and we answer it in the reply.

How much does a bookkeeper cost in Vancouver?

Local firms billing hourly charge $75 to $150 an hour, which puts most small businesses between $600 and $2,000 a month. Flat monthly plans run roughly $300 to $2,000 depending on volume. We charge a fixed monthly fee. Send us your transaction volume and what you need filed, and your number comes in writing within one business day.

What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant, and which do I need?

Two different jobs, usually done at different times of year. The monthly work is the day to day: receipts, categorization, reconciliation, payroll, GST and PST remittances, and your monthly reports. The year-end work is the income tax return. Unincorporated means a T1 with a statement of business activities. A corporation means a T2 and its schedules. We do both, so the return comes from books closed month by month. If someone else does your year end, we can do the monthly work alone and hand them a closed set of books.

Do I have to register for PST in BC?

It depends on what you sell, not how much. Most businesses selling goods in BC must register. Many service businesses do not. PST is separate from GST, and owners often register for one and miss the other. Tell us what you sell and we confirm both in your quote.

What if my books are a year behind?

The most common reason people get in touch. We look at how far behind you are and quote the whole catch-up as one number before starting. We clear it, file what is outstanding, then begin the monthly plan. You are not the first.

Do you work with businesses outside West Vancouver?

Yes. We are based in West Vancouver and work across British Columbia. Everything happens online, with nothing to drop off.

Do I need to use QuickBooks Online?

No. We work in QuickBooks Online, Xero and Sage 50, so you can stay on whichever you use. On Wave, spreadsheets or nothing, we recommend one and move you across during setup. Shopify and Stripe connect to all three.

How do I switch from my current bookkeeper?

You give us access to your accounting file and we take over from the next month. Nothing for you to move. If we find problems in the existing books during handover, we tell you before doing any extra work.
