Published on Published

The preliminary 2027 rates are out. The average is unchanged, but 48% of BC employers are in industries whose own base rate rises.

By Orbis Accounting Ltd.

WorkSafeBC has published its preliminary premium rates for 2027. The average base rate stays at $1.55 per $100 of assessable payroll, unchanged every year since 2018. It is set below the expected cost of about $1.88, and WorkSafeBC is returning roughly $960 million of surplus to employers in 2027 through discounted rates and assessment credits.

The figures

  • Average base rate: $1.55 per $100 of assessable payroll
  • Employers whose industry base rate rises: 48%; falls: 30%; unchanged: 22%
  • Surplus returned to employers in 2027: about $960 million
  • Maximum assessable earnings per worker from 1 January 2027: $130,800

The rates are preliminary until WorkSafeBC’s final-rates process in October and its board’s approval. The average matters less than your own classification unit’s rate and your experience rating, which the guide below explains.
