Bookkeeping services for Mission small businesses
Published on Published
Trades and wood products, small retail, home-based businesses and short-term rentals, with the books done online and no travel charge.
Short answer: we keep the books for Mission small businesses: monthly bookkeeping, GST and PST, payroll with T4s and ROEs, and T1 and T2 returns, for a fixed monthly fee. The work is done online from West Vancouver, so distance changes nothing about the price, and the quote arrives in writing within one business day.
What we do for Mission businesses
- Monthly bookkeeping, reconciled and closed every month
- GST and PST on schedule, and catch-up when returns are behind
- Short-term rental income, with the platform’s taxes kept out of your own returns
- Payroll, T4s and ROEs, and WorkSafeBC reporting
- T1 returns for sole proprietors, and T2 returns for corporations
What is different about the books here
Mission runs to trades, wood products and a large share of home-based businesses, many of them sole proprietors whose business income goes on the T1. For them the year end is a personal tax question as much as a business one: the business share of the home and the vehicle, CPP on self-employment earnings, and the 30 April payment date. Short-term rentals add a second kind of income with its own rules on what can be deducted.
Your Mission business licence
The City of Mission requires a business licence for commercial and industrial operations and for home-based businesses. A home-based application includes a questionnaire that several City departments review, and you confirm you have read the home occupation rules in the zoning bylaw. Those rules keep the business entirely inside a building, cap visits at ten people at one time and retail floor space at under 10 square metres, and prohibit most retail, food and beverage and motor vehicle uses. A short-term rental host needs a home occupation licence and a short-term rental declaration, and must also register with the provincial registry. Mission belongs to the Fraser Valley inter-municipal licence for mobile trades.
Questions Mission owners ask
Do I need a business licence for a short-term rental in Mission?
Yes. Mission requires a home occupation licence and a short-term rental declaration, on top of registering with the provincial short-term rental registry.
Can I sell from my home in Mission?
Only in a small way: retail floor space has to stay under 10 square metres, and most retail uses are not allowed as home occupations.
I am a sole proprietor. When is my tax due?
For a 31 December year end, the T1 is due 15 June, but any tax owing is due 30 April. The sole proprietor year-end checklist covers the dates and what to gather.
Do you have an office in Mission?
No. We are in West Vancouver and the work is online, at the same price as anywhere else we work.
