What is different about the books here
Both cities run to trades and construction, and Maple Ridge has a large number of home-based personal services: salons, spas and aesthetics run from home. Those businesses take card payments with tips, sell prepaid packages and gift cards, which are liabilities until the service is given, and sometimes sell products that carry PST alongside services that do not. Pitt Meadows adds farmland, and a rule worth knowing before buying property there: short-term rentals are not permitted anywhere in the city.
Your Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows licence
Maple Ridge requires a business licence for every business in the city. Every home-based business has a non-invasive home inspection by a bylaw compliance officer, and licences run for the calendar year, 1 January to 31 December. Pitt Meadows also requires a licence before a business starts, home-based ones included, and sorts home-based businesses into minor, major and rural categories: a minor one may have no clients or visitors, and a major one up to two at a time. Eligible mobile businesses, such as trades contractors and health care providers who visit clients at home, can add the Fraser Valley inter-municipal licence, which covers both cities.
