Bookkeeping services in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody

Published on Published

Construction, trades and family-run businesses, many incorporated with the owners on the payroll, where the decisions that matter come at year end.

By Orbis Accounting Ltd.

Short answer: we keep the books for small businesses across the Tri-Cities: monthly bookkeeping, GST and PST, payroll, and T1 and T2 returns, with the year-end decisions on salary, dividends and shareholder accounts made from books we closed month by month. The work is done online from West Vancouver, in English or Mandarin, at a fixed monthly fee quoted in writing within one business day.

What we do for Tri-Cities businesses

  • Monthly bookkeeping, reconciled and closed every month
  • Payroll for owners and staff, T4s and ROEs, and WorkSafeBC reporting
  • GST and PST on schedule
  • T2 returns with salary, dividends and the shareholder account lined up
  • T1 returns for sole proprietors, prepared from the same books

What is different about the books here

Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody run to construction, trades and family-run businesses, a good number incorporated with the owners on the payroll. That puts the decisions that matter at year end rather than in the monthly work: salary against dividends, what the shareholder account is doing, and whether the corporate return and the owners’ personal returns are prepared by people who can see both.

Your Tri-Cities business licence

Each of the three cities licenses its own businesses. Coquitlam issues home-based business licences through its home occupation application; its form notes that a home occupation can use up to 40% of the residential floor area, and an inspector reviews the application and arranges an inspection before approval. Port Coquitlam requires a licence for every business, temporary and home-based ones included, and its licences expire each 31 December. A mobile business based in one of the three can add the Tri-City inter-municipal licence to work in all three; a business based elsewhere still needs a non-resident licence in each.

Questions Tri-Cities owners ask

Should I pay myself salary or dividends?

It depends on the corporation’s profit, your personal income and what you want from CPP and RRSP room. Salary goes through payroll with a T4; dividends need a resolution and a T5. The guide sets out both.

Does one licence cover all three Tri-Cities?

For a mobile business based in one of them, the Tri-City inter-municipal licence covers all three. Businesses based elsewhere need a non-resident licence in each.

When does a Port Coquitlam business licence expire?

Each 31 December. Port Coquitlam licences are issued for the calendar year.

Do you serve Port Moody businesses too?

Yes, on the same terms as Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. The work is online, so the city makes no difference to the service.
